Our Authentic Packer and Birdsall Leather comes directly from the Tanneries in Australia. It is the highest quality kangaroo leather available worldwide. Kangaroo is a versatile, supple, durable, light, and long-wearing leather. While thin, kangaroo has 10 times the tensile strength of cowhide and is 50% stronger than goat. The fibers that make up the hide are fine, consistent and concentrated. Naturally durable, strong, supple and thin, kangaroo leather retains all it strength where other raw leather requires splitting and shaving which extensively reduces the performance.
For decades kangaroo has been used by Leather Crafters to make belts, hand bags, lanyards, jewelry, whips, horse tack, dog leads, saddles and numerous other custom-designed items.
I started braiding as a form of therapy after recovering from two broken wrists. That soon progressed to my newest endeavor, dog show leads. I started braiding dog show leads many years ago because when I tried to purchase one, I found the quality poor and the wait time ridiculous. After a lot of research, a great mentor, and a good swift kick, I was soon braiding leads. Working with my mentor quickly improved my techniques and took my leads to a professional level.
Over the years we’ve grown and decided to help other Leather Crafters by bringing a large variety of Kangaroo Leather to the US. Now we are expanding our services from just custom work to also supplying leather, tool and teaching the skills to help others become proficient in our craft.

Our leads begin with the finest kangaroo leather from Packer Leather and Birdsall Leather in Australia. To begin a lead, the leather is measured, stretched, split, beveled, and conditioned. Then the exciting part begins, the braiding! Terminal knots are used to secure the beads in place. Once the braiding is complete, your lead is rolled and conditioned before shipping to you.
